Located in a magnificent location, at the foot of the Sassolungo group and with Sella and Marmolada opposite, the Rifugio Friedrich August offers its guests a condensation of history, taste and innovation.
The refuge is dedicated to Friedrich August of Saxony (1865-1932) who, loving hiking at altitude, made the path that still bears his name and passes right next to the structure which, in winter, is instead in the heart of the Col Rodella ski area. The refuge is known not only for its location, but also for the breeding of Scottish cattle (together with some yacks) that live all year round on the neighboring pastures and for this reason have become a symbol of the structure, even at the table. Friedrich August's specialities also include meat-based dishes from organic farming, as well as traditional Ladin and Tyrolean recipes, revisited with a contemporary flavour. The dishes are accompanied by an excellent assortment of wines, to be enjoyed, on sunny days, on the panoramic terrace where in summer the freshly baked krapfen are also exhibited which, with their proverbial scent, invite hikers to a delicious stop.
